Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) volunteers
What is VITA?
The IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) offers free basic tax return preparation to qualified individuals providing the maximum benefits available to the tax payer and encouraging them to file their returns.
VITA volunteers do meaningful work in the fight against poverty.
VITA sites offer free tax help to people who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns, including:
People who generally make $60,000 or less
Persons with disabilities; and
Limited English-speaking taxpayers
What is the commitment?
There are many volunteer positions with the VITA program, from Greeter to Site Administrator.
Must be a United States Citizen or be a permanent resident in the United States.
There is an opportunity for professionals to receive CE credits for participation.
